These terms are an agreement between you and Viami (“Viami”, “we”, “us”), operated from Aotearoa New Zealand. By using the Viami app or website (together, “the service”), you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information and forms part of this agreement.
We’ve tried to write these terms the way we write the app: plainly. If anything is unclear, ask us — hello@viami.me.
1. What Viami is
Viami is a companion for parents and caregivers from pregnancy to school age: gentle record-keeping, growth tracking on NZ reference charts, immunisation reminders based on the New Zealand schedule, an AI assistant grounded in your own records, connections to early-childhood services, and calculators for New Zealand childcare support (FamilyBoost, Childcare Subsidy, 20 Hours ECE).
Viami is an information and record-keeping tool. It is not a medical device, a healthcare provider, or a government agency.
2. Not medical advice
Content in Viami — including reminders, reference ranges, milestone guides and answers from the AI assistant — is general information to support you, not a diagnosis, treatment or professional medical advice. The AI assistant generates answers automatically; it has safety guardrails, but like all AI it can be incomplete or wrong. Immunisation information follows the current New Zealand Immunisation Schedule as published by Health New Zealand, with the version we rely on recorded in the app — but your health provider is always the authority on your child’s care.
3. Money tools are estimates
Our calculators use the current published rates and rules for New Zealand childcare support, kept in versioned configuration and reviewed regularly. They produce estimates to help you understand what your family may qualify for. They are not financial advice, and they are not a decision: eligibility and amounts are always determined by the relevant agency (Inland Revenue for FamilyBoost, the Ministry of Social Development for Childcare Subsidy, your ECE service for 20 Hours ECE). Double-check with the agency before making decisions that depend on the numbers.
4. Free things that stay free
Viami is free to use today. We may introduce optional premium tools later; if we do, we’ll say clearly what’s included, and the pledge above stands. The entitlement calculators additionally work without an account at all.
5. Your account
- You can use Viami as a guest, or create an account with Apple, Google, or a passwordless email link. You’re responsible for keeping access to your email and sign-in methods secure, and for what happens under your account.
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. Viami is for parents and caregivers — it is not directed at children.
- Only add a child to Viami if you are their parent or legal guardian, or have that person’s permission. When you invite family members, you choose their role — and you’re responsible for choosing roles that match what they should see.
6. Your content stays yours
Everything you put into Viami — records, notes, measurements, photos — belongs to you and your family. You give us only the limited licence we need to store, process, back up and display it in order to run the service, including sharing it with the family members and connected institutions you authorise. That licence ends when the content is deleted. We never use your family’s content for advertising, and our Privacy Policy strictly limits how it can be processed.
7. Centres, directories and other third parties
- The centre search uses the Ministry of Education’s public ECE directory. We refresh it regularly but it can contain errors or lag reality — confirm details with the service itself. For home-based networks, the location shown is the coordinator’s address, not individual educators’ homes, and is marked as such.
- Early-childhood services, midwives, GPs and schools you connect with are independent organisations. They are responsible for the information they send and the services they provide; a connection in Viami is not an endorsement by us, and enrolment or care arrangements are strictly between you and them.
- Enquiries you send through Viami are one-off emails sent on your behalf with your address as the reply-to. We don’t follow up on your behalf.
8. Fair use
Please don’t: use Viami unlawfully or to harm anyone; enter information about children or adults you have no right to enter; attempt to access other families’ data; probe, overload, scrape or interfere with the service; or misuse the enquiry tool to spam providers. We build for trust between families and institutions — accounts used to break that trust may be suspended (see section 10).
9. Changes and availability
We keep improving Viami, which means features will change over time. We aim to keep the service available and your data safe, but no online service can promise perfect uptime — records made offline sync when you’re back. If we ever make a change that materially reduces what you rely on, or plan to discontinue the service, we’ll give you reasonable notice in the app and your data export will be there for you throughout (that’s the point of it).
10. Ending things
You can stop any time: export your data, then delete your account in-app — see Data & deletion. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaches these terms, or where we must by law; unless the law prevents it, we’ll tell you why and give you the chance to export your data first.
11. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986, or any other rights that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that: Viami is provided “as is”; we are not liable for decisions made in reliance on estimates, reminders or AI-generated content (see sections 2 and 3), for the acts of independent institutions you connect with, or for indirect or consequential loss. Where liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, it is limited to the greater of NZ$100 and the amount you paid us for the service in the past 12 months.
12. Governing law & talking to us first
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction. If something goes wrong, contact us first at hello@viami.me — most problems are fixed faster in an email than anywhere else.
13. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in any meaningful way, we’ll notify you in the app (and your Inbox) before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Viami after that means you accept the updated terms; if you don’t, you can export and delete as described above. The current version always lives at this address.
